Powerful Tornado Hits Hattiesburg February 10, 2013

A powerful wedge tornado destroyed parts of Hattiesburg, Oak Grove and Petal Mississippi February 10, 2013. It was very unusual that no one died. 2000 homes and businesses were damaged and destroyed.

The fact that many people were at home or at the New Orleans Mardi Gras is part of the reason no one died. President Obama declared the area a disaster. The old growth trees in front of The University of Southern Mississippi were uprooted and the Ogletree Alumni House was heavily damaged. These photographs were of a home on Waller St. in Petal near the Ace Hardware Store which was completely destroyed.
